We are thrilled to announce that the Team Barracuda 2026 Summer swim season has begun! All of the information you need for this season is below and can also be found on our team website at the following link:

Swimmer Eligibility

In accordance with the
Team Barracuda bylaws and our affiliation with the Western Tidewater Swim
Association (WTSA), each participating family must have an active membership
with the Riverfront Swim Club.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR
2026:
The Founders Pointe Residents Club is no longer owned by East West Realty, so
special consideration has been granted to allow Founders Pointe families to
continue to swim for Team Barracuda. For the 2026 season, returning and new Team Barracuda families who reside in Founders Pointe may pay an additional $50 per swimmer ($75 max per family) in addition to regular Team Barracudas registration fees, directly to Riverfront Swim Club. Please contact Pam Sweet of Riverfront Swim
Club at [email protected] separately, prior to May 23, 2026.

Swimmers who are between 5 years old and 18 years old as of June 1, 2026 are welcome to register. 

Each child MUST be able to swim at least one (1) length (25 yards or meters) of the pool unassisted, using any stroke. There are no exceptions. Summer swim is
meant to be a positive and fun experience for all ages, but it is not a place to learn to swim. For swimming lessons, please reach out to Pam at Riverfront Swim Club.

2026 Coaches

We’re excited to announce this season’s coaching team.

Head Coach – Drew Vanden Heuvel

Andrew Vanden Heuvel - Swimming 2025-26 - Old Dominion Athletics

Coach Drew is a native of Sarasota, FL where he was a member of a 3-time state champion high school program. He is a rising senior swimmer for ODU and was
previously an Associate Head Coach for the Norfolk Yacht & CC Sea Dragons. He is excited to join Team Barracuda this summer and looks forward to meeting all swimmers and parents.

In addition to Coach Drew, please welcome back Sam Walter, and welcome Preston DeFeo and Abby Crystal as Assistant Coaches. Sam is well known to Team
Barracuda from serving in a coaching role last year. Preston is a rising senior at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy where he set several school records this past swim season and was a state finalist in the 100Y Freestyle. Abby will graduate from Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in May and is a 4-time state qualifying swimmer. Sam, Preston, and Abby are also lifeguards for the Riverfront Swim Club.

Practices

Practices will begin on Tuesday, May 26^th, 2026. All practices will be held at Riverfront Swim Club as follows:

  • 8:00AM - 9:00AM, ages 9 and up
  • 7:00PM – 8:00PM, ages 5 to 8
  • 8:00PM – 9:00PM, ages 9 and up

WTSA Meet Schedule (swimmers arrive one hour before each meet)

*The All Star Meet is a special event that brings together the top swimmers from each team in our league. All Stars will be chosen from each age group based on criteria TBA. Selection will occur on Sunday, Jul 12^th with notification to the families
immediately thereafter.

Volunteering

Summer swim does not run effectively without volunteers from all families. We require each family to provide 1 volunteer for at least 3 of the meets.

The volunteering expectation will be as follows for the 2026 season:

• During registration, you will be required to select a minimum of three (3) meets that
  your family will provide one adult volunteer.
• If you do not fulfill your commitment to volunteer, you are required to find a
  replacement or you will be invoiced $100 per assignment and your swimmer(s)
  will not be eligible to swim until paid.

If you have prior USA Swimming training as a Stroke & Turn Judge, Chief Judge, or Meet Referee, please contact us and let us know how you can help. For anyone interested in filling these roles, including those who have been trained in the past, the WTSA will provide a 2 hour, in person mandatory training session for these roles in early June at a date, location, and time TBD.

Team Barracuda, Inc is a 501(c)3 entity and is run by a board of parent volunteers. The team relies heavily on sponsorship contributions to help cover team events, equipment, and instructional costs for the swimmers. The sponsorship deadline for this season is May 23, 2026. We would welcome and appreciate your support!

We have one sponsorship level that is equal to a $500 contribution and comes with the following benefits:
